Boston Housing Waitlist - A Commonwealth in Crisis

According to a news story on WCVB 5 ABC, in Metro Boston tens of thousands of people are waiting for a chance at affordable housing and it is far exceeding the number of available units.

The story goes on to show even if there were enough available affordable housing units, housing the waiting Boston families in need would cost more than $1B.

In the city of Boston alone, the low income housing waitlist is over 42,000 people. According to Boston Housing Authority Administrator, Kenzie Bok, that number has grown by 5,000 in the last 4 months.

With multitudes of people living in cars and literally on the streets, the Boston Housing Authority has prioritized placing families with children and senior citizens in an effort to house the most vulnerable people.
