Living on Nothing But Food Stamps

A sobering article in the New York times tells the stories of several families living on nothing but food stamps.

The article reflects that more than 6 million Americans currently report using food stamps, but an untold many of those Americans are living on little else.

The article also highlights the fact that tougher welfare laws have made it harder for poor people to get aid in the form of cash, so many people have no other income besides the food stamps on their ebt cards.

How to Get Expedited Food Stamps

Expedited food stamps (SNAP benefits) is the name of a process where low income families are given food stamps within 7 days from the date of their application. Eligibility rules include the following: Your household’s income is less than $150 per month and your household’s assets are less than $100 (assets include cash that you have on hand and the money in your bank account). Your rent and utilities are more than your monthly income before deductions OR You are a migrant seasonal farm worker and your household’s cash and money in the bank is less than $100. If none of these situations apply, you may receive Food Stamps within 30 days of the date you apply for government aid.
